Moving a household usually creates a little chaos for any family. Packing, decluttering, cleaning, and moving everything is a process! While you’re moving, the last thing you want is to bring a pest problem to your new home. Here are some tips to make sure you’re not packing up pests to move with you!
- Inspect
This is the first and most important step! Inspect everything — the boxes you’re packing everything into, bedding, furniture, rugs, and anything else you plan to take with you. Bed bugs, spiders, and fleas are just some of the pests which might try to ride along as hitchhikers!
- Clean
Items like bedding and rugs should be washed and vacuumed before moving, especially if you have any chance of having bed bugs or fleas. Disinfect anything that seems to have food residue or signs of pests before packing it! Roaches and ants can sneak into your boxes while moving, inevitably bringing old critters into your new home. If you encounter any larger infestations or problems, give us a call and we can help you figure out the best course of action!
- Take Pets to the Vet
Fleas can catch a ride in furniture and other belongings, but they can also enter your new home by hiding in your pets’ fur. Before you move, take your pets to the vet and make sure they are up to date on their vaccinations and flea prevention.
- Call Us to Inspect Your New Home!
Even if you don’t bring any pests with you during the move, you may still encounter pests in the new place. Before you move in, give May Exterminating a call. We’ll thoroughly inspect your new home and make sure it’s pest free from day one!
