Many North Carolinians welcome the fall season to relieve them of the heat and humidity found along the Eastern Coast.

Fall is the perfect time for preventative pest maintenance. Here are some tips to help keep pests out of your home this fall season.
Maintain Your Yard
Dead leaves, overgrown grass, and woodpiles can provide the ideal home for pests. Keeping up with yard work can be one of the best ways to prevent pests from making themselves comfortable in your space. Keep your grass mowed, stack firewood off the ground and away from the house, turn your mulch, and clean up after pets if possible to discourage pests from invading your yard and entering your home.
Check for Cracks
Fall is an important time to check for cracks, crevices, holes, and gaps in your home. Be sure to check your foundation, siding, doors, garage, floors, and attic. Repair any issues you find by caulking and weatherstripping.
Declutter Your Home
Clutter provides perfect hiding places and safe breeding spaces for rodents and insects. Decluttering will help prevent pests from hiding in your home.
Keep Up Good Cleaning Habits
Cleaning is one of the easiest and most effective ways to prevent pest infestation. Pests are looking for food, water, and shelter. Keeping dirty dishes out of the sink will ensure that pests don’t have access to food and water in the same place. Sweeping and mopping will prevent crumbs from attracting pests. Sealing food well and regularly taking out the trash will also help keep the critters out.
